Johnny-come-lately’s

I'm officially declaring 14-Jun-2006 at 13:02 MDT to be the official cut-off between the Oracle bloggers who have moved away from Blogger based on their own initiative and those Johnny-come-lately's who are just following the herd.

That being said, I'm glad that Peter Scott has just squeaked in under-the-wire.

Now, who's left?

  1. Come off it! I dumped Blogger back in October of last year. That’s got to be worth something!

    I can spot a johnny-come-lately a mile off, you know.

    By the way, I like the subdued grey. The old green wanted to make me throw up!

  2. Actually, upon reflection, I think like attorneys-general it should be ‘Johnnies-come-lately’, not ‘Johnny-come-lately’s’. That possessive s at the end is a dead giveaway.

  3. October last year makes you a visionary. There, I said it.

    I fiddled with trying to change the vivid green to a scorching yellow, but my CSS-fu was not up to it. Grey is good.

    I agonised over the plural, I have to say, and ultimately I think I settled on the worst of all choices. Yes, “Courts Martial” also.

  4. There is talk on the forums that WordPress.com will no longer be free from July 1. Apparently, WP are having to purchase an HP Superdome and an 2TB EMC disk array to accomodate this recent influx of Oracle bloggers.

  9. Ah, this is but a mere stepping stone to the greater glories of self-hosting. I already have http://www.oraclesponge.com but I’m currently just using it as an ftp site to share files with my co-workers. I expect to make a move to self-hosting later on in the year, after which we can safely declare the whole self-hosting trend to be passe.

    By the way, I mercilessly ripped-off Howard’s idea of linking to machine translations of the page (bottom of left sidebar) and my wife tells me that on “La Spugna di Oracle” the admittedly-poor translation of the admittedly-poor grammer of “Johnny-come-lately’s” means “Johnny-to come-retarded”. Gibberish? Or an ominous warning! Make of that what you will.

  10. I looked at wordpress last fall. At the time, I couldn’t have multiple blogs with the same account, so I stayed with blogger (not sure if it’s still the case). Blogger is sorely missing categories, but for now I’m sticking to it until I have time to self-host.
