I use SQL because the predecessor was SEQUEL “Structured English QUEry Language”. Strangley enough, IBM’s documentation uses “an SQL”, showing how they pronounce it.

“suckle”

I’m pretty schizoid about it. “sequel server”, “s-q-l plus”, “sequel developer”, “s-q-l” (alone), “sql worksheet”.

I have always called it SQrL (as in the animal that eats nuts)

Tg\he origin os Sequel dates back ro IBM’s System R. A language names Sequel was chosen and later re-named SQL, hence the carry over.
